Invest in yourself – because you’re worth it!

Tailored partner support can make a transformative difference to any relocation experience, helping expat partners invest in their own growth and build a fulfilling life alongside their family’s new adventure.

The leading priority

Looking back on her expat journey, expat partner Rosina Covarrubias remembers she had one leading priority: “Making sure our kids felt safe, happy and supported,” she explains. For many expat partners like Rosina, it can be easy to place their own aspirations on hold while focusing on helping their children adapt. That’s why the partner support programme provided by my husband’s employer and Global Connection proved pivotal for Rosina. It reminded her to think about her own goals and how she wanted to adapt to life in a new country.

The joy of self-discovery

“Usually, any extra resources go toward our children – their activities, courses and needs,” she says. “But the partner support programme made me realise I could explore new interests and dedicate time to personal growth. It gave me permission to prioritise myself, which made a huge difference in how I adjusted and built a fulfilling life in Panama.” This led to a period of self-discovery that Rosina describes as very special and meaningful. “Today, I feel more open-minded, adaptable and confident about the future.”

Enriching for the kids

For Rosina’s three children, relocating from Monterrey to Panama also opened up a world of opportunity. “Attending an international school with classmates from all over the world has been a wonderful experience,” she says. “They made friends from different countries and cultures, which helped them see life from very different perspectives.” Through these friendships, her children learned to respect different ways of living and thinking, and to truly appreciate diversity. “I believe this experience gave them tools and confidence that will stay with them for life.”

The next chapter

After three years in Panama, Rosina will soon return to Mexico or possibly relocate again. “Whatever happens, the support I received has been life-changing, and this whole experience has broadened my outlook in unexpected ways.” Meeting families who have lived in many different countries has also helped her realise how many possibilities exist beyond one’s home nation. “I have learned to appreciate how differently people can see the world, shaped by where they were born and raised or the cultures they have been part of.”
