Scoring perfect marks, Singapore has taken top spot in the increasingly crucial area of digital competitiveness in a maiden global ranking of economies this year.

Sweden and the US were second and third respectively. Making up the rest of the top 10 were, in order of fourth to 10th: Finland; Denmark; The Netherlands; Hong Kong; Switzerland; Canada; and Norway.
Goal of the survey
The IMD World Competitiveness Centre published the digital competitiveness survey this year with the goal of assessing the capacity and readiness of a country to adapt, explore and make the most of the digital transformation. The ranking was based on 50 criteria – ranging from talent, capital to business agility and IT integration – which were then split into three categories: knowledge, technology and future readiness.

“Singapore and Sweden have developed regulations that facilitate the inflow of overseas talent which complements the local pool,” said IMD World Competitiveness Centre director Arturo Bris. “The US invests more in developing its scientific concentration and generating ideas, but the country also has a history of government support for technological innovation.”
