After two relocations in a short space of time, expat partner Aditee Mehta decided to pause her career and enrol in an MBA course: “It’s been very intensive and very challenging but also very fulfilling.”
Can’t say no!
“We were living in Sydney when my husband Alok’s employer offered him a role in Paris. We were very happy in Sydney. We were both working and had a nice circle of friends but how could we say no? It was a very exciting opportunity to live in ‘the City of Light’, which is also closer to our hometown of Mumbai,” says Aditee.
The vegan way
“In the end we only stayed in Paris for eight months but we made the most of it. During our time there, I brushed up on my rusty French and explored the city. One of the ways we discovered new places was by seeking out vegan restaurants. I found a brochure, quite by chance, with a map and loads of excellent recommendations.”
Missing Paris…
“We relocated to Amsterdam in April 2022. It was hard to adjust because we’d had so much fun in Paris. But when you relocate, I think you can’t look back too much. Over time, we learned to live in the moment and appreciate the beauty of Amsterdam. We built up some new routines and feel very settled.”
Study plan emerges
“Before relocating to Europe, I worked in fashion for over 15 years, running my own business in India and joining the workforce in Sydney. After moving to Amsterdam, I managed to find a job in the fashion industry on a short-term contract. It was later on, after talking to Ines Ahrens, my Global Connection consultant, that I started to consider following a study path…”
For a better planet
“Subsequently I found an MBA course in Sustainable Fashion Management, which was the perfect fit for me. I lead a sustainable lifestyle as much as I can but I want to go further and do my bit to implement radical change on the planet. As I have a background in fashion, my long-term goal is to reenter the workforce and help contribute to cleaning up the industry,” says Aditee, who will complete her course in 2025. “It’s been a lot of work but I’m really enjoying it and I’m excited to see what opportunities are out there for me after I graduate.”
