‘I would have jumped at the chance for someone to help me with ideas and self-confidence about what I could do after repatriation!’ said one respondent in our recent ‘Return to Work’ survey.
Survey strikes a chord
Judging by the number of participants and their willingness to share their experiences, we obviously struck a chord with this survey – the results of which can be found in the right column of this page.
We support return to work
In a number of new ways we will provide more support to expat partners looking to work again after repatriation. This decision is a response to comments from numerous expat partners who indicated they have concerns about their chances of getting a job after returning home, and their need for more support in this area.
Guidance from our consultants
An important mainstay for these new forms of support will be increased guidance by our consultants, which will, of course, also depend on the agreements with the expatriating company.
Pre-decision support
Ideally this support should start even before the decision to move abroad has been made. After all, at that stage important steps can be taken, proactively, to make it easier to return to work in due course. Support can also continue after returning home, if necessary.
Looking at competencies
One of the ways in which expat partners can also be supported is by carefully looking at each individual’s competencies. Tests and/or assessments, followed by specific training if necessary, can shine a light on this.
Publications and network
Our website fulfils its own important role in providing more support to (future) repat partners as a source of information and by offering access to a network of other expat and repat partners.
