We encourage global mobility and HR professionals to share their insights by participating in Permits Foundation’s 2026 International Dual Careers Survey.
A changing landscape
International assignments have changed significantly over the past two decades. Dual-career households are now the norm for many relocating families, meaning a partner’s ability to work can influence whether an assignment is accepted, enjoyed or even completed. While many countries have expanded work access for accompanying spouses and partners, regulations and opportunities still vary considerably around the world.
Building understanding
Since its foundation in 2001, Permits Foundation has conducted research that has helped employers, mobility professionals and policymakers better understand the impact of partner employment on global mobility. The organisation has also championed greater work access for accompanying partners, helping drive policy improvements in numerous countries. Its interactive world map of spouse and partner employment authorisation remains a valuable resource for internationally mobile families.
Looking ahead
The 2026 International Dual Careers Survey will explore the evolving relationship between dependant work access and talent mobility in a changing global landscape. The findings will help inform policymakers and industry professionals, supporting more inclusive, effective, and predictable approaches to managing an internationally mobile workforce.
Join the survey
The survey features 24 short questions and takes just 10 to 15 minutes to complete. All responses will remain anonymous and findings will be reported in aggregated form. By contributing, employers and mobility professionals can help build a clearer picture of the opportunities and challenges facing internationally mobile families today.
